This
has been made more interesting as a result of recent political and
offensive developments in various regions, which provide a potential
route. Any route selected today would have to be flexible to take
into account these abnormalities. While we expect the expedition
to be exciting, we would be foolish to take unnecessary risks with
the safety of the participating members of the team.
The likely route is to travel into India visiting
Lucknow and Delhi before skirting round the northern f ringes
of the Great Indian Desert into Pakistan. The route through Pakistan
follows a line south of the Afghan border and into Iran. We then
travel the length of Iran following a line parallel to the Zagros
Mountains, visiting Qom, Tehran and Tabriz before entering Turkey
by its eastern border. Travelling west through Turkey the route
takes us to Ankara and on to Istanbul. Travelling into Bulgaria,
we head north to Rumania and Bucharest, into Hungary to Budapest,
Austria, Germany and France to cross the Channel and into England.
The return journey will follow a similar line in reverse.
