The project aims to purchase four tempos during the
summer of 2005 and to drive them back to the UK, an approximate
distance of 8,000 miles. Not all vehicles will be on the road at
any one time; a support vehicle will carry those not on the road.
The vehicles will be rotated and when breakdowns occur spares will
be taken off the least roadworthy vehicle.
Throughout the journey a study of the performance
of each vehicle will be carried out paying particular attention
to engine performance, fuel consumption, efficiency, economy and
emissions.

On reaching Worcester the tempos will be replaced
by vehicles using an alternative power source and will be driven
back to Kathmandu. Throughout the return journey a similar study
will take place. Over 8,000 miles there should be enough data to
prove that the new engines are better in every respect and will
make considerable improvements to the air quality of Kathmandu,
provided the technology can continue to develop.
